I've spent most of my career working in the support industry, though I've always kept a hand in software too, building passion projects on the side and taking on the odd job for local clients.

At some point I noticed how much of my day was going into typing the exact same things: greetings, answers, boilerplate. It got old fast, so I went looking for a text expander to fix it.

Turns out there's no shortage of them out there, but only a handful actually run on both Windows and Mac. I've got more than one device between work and personal use, so that mattered a lot to me. Whatever I picked had to run everywhere I did.

The cross-platform ones I found were either a pain to set up, too pricey for what they offered, or missing the kind of snippet management I actually wanted. And honestly, I didn't want a separate app for notes, another for a Kanban board, another for timers, and yet another for clipboard history. I wanted one place for all of it.

With how far AI has come, building software isn't nearly the mountain it used to be. So I started digging and reached out to friends and colleagues who know this stuff better than I do.

And that's how JAST came together.

What does JAST mean?

JAST is an acronym, though what it stands for has moved around a bit. It started as Just Another Software Tool, turned into Just Another Shortcut Tool, and these days it's Just Another Snippet Tool. Take your pick, honestly. That's kind of the point. JAST is meant to be shaped around whatever you need it to be: your own snippets, timers, notes, a whole productivity setup, or something else entirely.

What does it do?

The short answer? It's a productivity tool. The long answer? Well, it's an offline app where your data never leaves your devices. It allows you to manage your notes, clipboard, timers, and most of all, Xpansions.

An Xpansion is our own take on snippets and we use it interchangeably. At its core, we're really just another snippet tool (pun intended). Type a short keyword, and the text expands to a phrase or a complete sentence. Or with JAST:

• It can start timers like Pomodoro, Countdown, or Stopwatch.
• Open a sticky note that stays on top of your screen, a Kanban board to stay organized, or your checklist.
• Run macros that expand text, press keys, or use every feature that's mentioned here using just a single trigger.
